Why should everyone dance at Dimensions in Dance?

DIMENSIONS In Dance was founded in 1996 by Michele Leslie, a former professional ballerina with Dance Theatre of Harlem. Amy Fortier, the current director, took over the school in 2007. The philosophy of the school is to offer professional dance training in a non-competitive environment. We teach dance as an art form, and thereby do not do expensive competitions. We also foster friendship and camaraderie in our dancers, not cut throat rivalry like many schools in this area.

Our wide range of Professional Classes:
Our curriculum is designed to serve the intellectual, artistic, and emotional needs of both young and old, with a strong commitment to the arts. Not only do we have a plethora of children’s classes, we offer the largest Adult Dance program in New Hampshire.

Our Amazing Faculty:
Our entire adult faculty has professional dance and teaching experience. We never have teenagers or dancers with poor training teach at our school. All of our faculty are amazing teachers and choreographers with years of experience.

Small Classes and Personal Attention:
Unlike many schools in the area that have dozens of dancers squished in one class, we cap our classes to give our dancers small intimate classes, giving them more individual attention and a better learning environment. Dancers also learn faster and improve more with small classes.

Our Three Studios:
Our three studios have state of the art sprung floors, which reduce injury and fatigue. We have three waiting rooms for parents to wait, and all have windows into the studios so that parents can watch their children. Three studios also allows us to have a wide range of classes and levels, so you can be sure to find what you are looking for.

Our Annual Production:
Many families say that the fact that we do not do a long boring recital as our end of year production is one of their favorite aspects of our school. Every year, we put together a full-length production involving all of our students who wish to be in the show, from pre-school to adult. We use sets, backdrops from California, and award winning costumes to create an amazing show at the Palace theatre in Manchester, NH. We believe is is important for dancers to feel like they are “part of a production” instead of just being in their annual recital.
We also have a Nutcracker that takes dancers on an audition basis, and we have a performing company, Ballet Misha, for our adult and teen dancers.

Why should everyone dance?

In addition to providing valuable physical fitness, dancing offers a wealth of important skills for all ages. Dancing improves coordination, flexibility, and complex motor skills, which is why many professional athletes take danceclasses. Even if children only dance for a few years, the proper posture they learn in class can last a lifetime. For adults who often spend so much time in repetitive postures, like staring at a computer screen or carrying children and heavy bags, dance helps to correct postural and muscular problems. Dance also teaches musicality, enabling dancers to identify different types of music, as well as count and phrase music. Scientific studies have also shown that children who take dance classes have improved study skills as dance class necessitates the continual memorization of vocabulary and movement phrases, which improves memory skills. This is also true for adults and studies have shown that taking dance classes helps prevent diseases like Alzheimer's. Dance also teaches discipline and builds self-esteem and confidence as it is not competitive. Not to mention, it is lots of fun and is a great way to release stress!
